It’s no secret that this year has been filled with uncertainty, which makes data collection and trends all the more important to keep an eye on. In this post we’ll review some of the recent results from Waze users and how dealerships should be taking advantage of a current navigation trend to boost their traffic!

Waze Search Trends – Auto Service is Up

As part of their September newsletter Waze provided data they had collected over Labor Day 2020. These results are a great metric both for general knowledge and to plan ahead for the upcoming holiday season. With most states in the U.S. expected to have similar COVID-19 procedures in place, travel via car is anticipated to stay a popular choice for families over Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. According to Waze, there was a 5% increase in miles driven per driver from Labor Day weekend 2020 compared to 20191. It’s also interesting to note that amongst the different navigation searches that Waze has seen an increase in recently, Auto Parts and Service Brands are up 10%1.

Key Opportunity for Dealerships

What does this mean for car dealerships? People throughout the country are choosing to travel more via car, which also means that they likely need to make sure that their vehicle is mechanically in good condition. This is a huge opportunity for dealership service bays to capture customers who are looking for local options to get an oil change, tire rotation, purchase a new battery, and prepare for a road trip. If a driver puts in a Waze search for an auto service center or parts location and a third party service center shows up, that’s potential revenue lost for you as a dealer! Service customers are extremely valuable, making this important territory to claim against the competition.
