Getting the Service You Were Promised

TRANSCRIPT: Jenna, I hear it from dealers all the time, they were promised a level of service from a previous vendor and never got it, or it only lasted a short while. How can dealers be sure they will get the service level promised? The answer is code, or more to the point, the ability to make complex changes on the site without changing code. Code writers are expensive and hard to find, so the only way a dealer can be sure service levels will remain high is to assure the website service workers can make modifications without changing the code. How can a dealer tell that? Virtually any change the site provider can do without writing code should also be made available to the dealer. Insist that the website provider show you what you can and cannot do on the site. If you can’t do it, chances are no one can do it without writing code. Are their widgets for easily doing complex tasks? Can you add Google Analytics goals or conversion codes without submitting a ticket? Can you make changes to the VDP layout, the main menu bar, or social media toolbar yourself? If you can’t do it the person on the other end of the phone probably can’t do it for you. If a website provider cannot show you how you can easily make changes for yourself, then they probably can’t do it for you without dependence on someone who knows the code and has the time to change it, and that’s a fact.
